Unleashing the Power of Pinktober

Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in women in our territory. This October, through our Pinktober events and initiatives we promoted breast cancer awareness, honored our survivors, and supported our fighters.

Together, our Virgin Islands community unleashed the power of Pinktober and raised over $200,000!

Thank you to our Ten for 10 Matching Sponsors, who quickly inspired a community of giving. The incentive of knowing every dollar raised would be doubled — incited schools, restaurants, gyms, fitness studios, churches, coffee shops, retail stores, pharmacies, and jewelry stores to get creative and raise funds.

Our Pinktober Partners truly raised the bar with their fundraising efforts! Having family members directly impacted by cancer, the team at Rock Life CrossFit was motivated to double what they raised last year. They rallied support from many local businesses and hosted a series of events throughout the month — including WOD parties, Burpees for Boobies, a Pink Run and fitness competitions. They partnered with businesses such as Bellows International, ‘Za Rock, Paradise Bistro, Caribbean Surf and many others — not only to surpass their goal but TRIPLE it — raising over $20,000!

With donations from CC1 Virgin Islands, Sweet Fit VI and Jackson Fitness hosted Pink Cycling classes, Lattes in Paradise hosted their annual Pumpkin Carving Party, and Art Uncorked hosted a bra decorating class. WAPA and Living Hope Cathedral held pink walks to both raise funds and awareness. Countless bars and restaurants territory-wide participated in creating their own independent initiatives. For example, The Tap & Still carried out their annual pink bag promotion across all their locations.

Many volunteers were motivated to get out and collect donations for our Give Cancer the Boot initiative. Thank you to students and faculty at Eudora Kean, All Saints, Antilles, and Montessori Schools, who were so excited to participate. At the end of the month, the United States Postal Service sent out their carriers dressed in pink with our boots and collected donations.

It took a village to reach our goal — so thank you Virgin Islands! We are grateful to so many in our communities for their support. This is a critical time and your donations, monetary or in-kind, help ensure no Virgin Islander fights cancer alone.
