Breast Cancer Risk Factors 

  • Age 

  • Family history 

  • BRCA1/2 genetic mutations 

  • Lifestyle factors (alcohol, inactivity, obesity) 

In general, women at high risk for breast cancer include women with a family history of breast cancer in a first degree relative (mother, sister, or daughter), women with an inherited gene mutation, and women with a personal history of breast cancer. 

Symptoms to Watch For 

  • Lump or thickening in the breast 

  • Change in size or shape 

  • Dimpling, puckering, or rash 

  • Nipple discharge or retraction
