Men’s Health Month: Advocacy, Awareness, and Action
Cancer Support VI (CSVI) is proud to launch a month-long digital campaign this June dedicated to raising awareness and funds for men’s health, with a special focus on early detection, routine screenings, and access to care specifically to male dominate cancers. This community-wide initiative, "Community Outreach & Collaboration for Men’s Health: Advocacy. Awareness. Action." aims to break the silence around men’s cancer and empower individuals through education, survivor stories, and meaningful partnerships.
To strengthen this vital outreach, we’ve launched a $12,500 matching donor challenge, thanks to the generous support of J. Benton Construction and Baker Magras & Associates, along with an anonymous donor. Our goal is to raise a total of $25,000 for Men’s Health, doubling the impact of every community donation made throughout the month of June. Every dollar raised will directly support Cancer Support VI’s efforts to educate, engage, and empower men to prioritize their health and take proactive steps toward prevention and treatment, while also providing financial assistance to help ease the burden of cancer for patients in the USVI.
This campaign is about breaking the silence and stigma that too often surrounds men’s health, especially in our community. With the help of our generous business partners and local support we are taking bold action to change the narrative and support wellness.
This month, CSVI will spotlight men’s health by working closely with local physicians, urologists and oncologists to share expert guidance on the how’s and why’s of early screening. We are partnering with the VI Department of Health to promote early detection and routine cancer screenings, while also participating in DOH health fairs on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John to amplify prevention messaging. We’re engaging with local businesses to distribute educational materials and host awareness moments in the workplace. By collaborating with fraternities, civic groups, and faith-based organizations, we’re ensuring that vital information reaches men through trusted networks.
On Thursday, June 13, we invite the entire community to join us for Wear BLUE Day, a simple but powerful way to show support for men’s health and spark conversation. We’ll also be sharing survivor stories and physician spotlights to inspire open conversations and connecting individuals to CSVI’s financial assistance and patient advocacy services for access to the care they need.
“This campaign is about more than awareness, it’s about taking action and closing the empathy gap,” said Barb Michaud, Director of Cancer Support VI. “By working together across sectors and reaching deeper into the community, specifically focusing on male dominate businesses and organizations, we are creating a stronger, healthier future for men in our community.”
